The State is not opposing bail for Reana Devi Chand, who is charged with the murder of a 19-year-old woman.
Ms Chand appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar in the High Court in Suva today, where the State indicated it had no objection to her being released on bail.
However, Justice Goundar directed the State to formally put its position on bail in writing.
The matter was adjourned to September 7 for the court to consider bail and for Ms Chand to enter her plea to the murder charge.
Ms Chand is alleged to have intentionally set fire to a flat on Levuka Street, Samabula, on December 24 last year, resulting in the death of the 19-year-old woman who was trapped inside.
The State had previously told the court that the alleged motive stemmed from a dispute between Ms Chand and the landlady after a prior arrangement to purchase the property failed to eventuate.
Ms Chand was employed as a dental clerk at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital under the Ministry of Health.
