Classes for years 1 to 11 have not resumed because some teachers are not fully vaccinated.

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Premila Kumar said this as she warned teachers registered with the Ministry of Education that they had until next week to get their second jab or face termination.

She sounded the warning while speaking to teachers in Nadi this week during her four-day tour of schools in the Western Division.

She said school would resume for lower classes once teachers were fully vaccinated.

“We have given these teachers time to get fully vaccinated,” she said.

“We are encouraging our parents, students and teachers who are not vaccinated to please get vaccinated,” she said.

“There are some teachers that have taken their first jab but they have yet to take their second jab – we have given them time until next week to get their second jab.

“These are some of the steps that we are taking to encourage teachers who are uncertain whether they should get their vaccines or not because we will definitely terminate their contracts if teachers do not get their second jabs.” |
