A FOREIGN government that was supposedly interested in building an embassy at Suva’s botanical gardens will no longer pursue the option.

Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo said the foreign government was negotiating with landowners for a new piece of land.

“They themselves have decided not to build their embassy at the botanical gardens,” he said.

Mr Vosarogo said this was  because of the significance of that piece of land to the landowners of Suvavou.

“They respect the people of Suvavou and their objections,” he said, adding an announcement would be made soon regarding the proposed new site.

“We have identified the land.”

The minister said the media would have to wait for the announcement.
