THE National Federation Party (NFP) will not tolerate acts of intimidation against civil servants during the election period, says former finance minister and NFP leader Professor Biman Prasad.

While speaking during the party’s working committee meeting in Rakiraki yesterday, Prof Prasad revealed the party was deeply disturbed by a recent incident where a civil servant was targeted as part of an intimidation tactic because it was known that the individual had applied for an NFP ticket.

He clarified that while civil servants are bound by specific rules, they are legally permitted to make an application and express political interest.

Under the current regulations, civil servants are only required to resign from their positions once they are officially declared as candidates.

“I’m going to raise this with the Commissioner of Police and with the Prime Minister who is also the minister in charge of civil servants, because we don’t tolerate these acts of intimidation by anyone in the election period,” Prof Prasad said.

Meanwhile, he reminded members that accountability remained paramount.
