Cabinet has endorsed an updated Proxy Means Test aimed at more accurately identifying Fiji’s most vulnerable households under the Family Assistance Scheme.
The revised model uses more recent and comprehensive data to improve how beneficiaries are selected, ensuring assistance is directed to those who need it most.
Officials say the update will reduce targeting errors and improve efficiency across the social protection system, while maintaining safeguards to ensure vulnerable groups are not excluded.
“The updated model will better identify the most vulnerable households and improve the accuracy of support delivery,” Government said.
The changes come amid continued investment in welfare programs, with $200 million allocated in the 2024–2025 Budget to support more than 104,000 beneficiaries.
These include recipients under the Family Assistance Scheme, Social Pension Scheme, Care and Protection Allowance, Disability Allowance, Rural Pregnant Mothers Food Allowance and the Transport Assistance Scheme.
