Fiji’s Free Health Schemes will continue under the 2023-2024 financial year but with ‘necessary’ improvements and new criterion for the public-private partnership to improve the scheme going forward.

As of August 1 this year, only patients with a combined household income of $30,000 or less a year can qualify for the free services under the free health scheme.

And the Ministry of Health and Medical Services has advised that those who wish to be seen under the health schemes must register where eligible individuals were required to complete an application form.

Those forms were made available publicly from Wednesday, July 26.

Eligible Fijians are requested to fill the manual form and submit to the Ministry of Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics.

The general practitioners (GPs), dental practitioners (DPs) and medical laboratories (MLs) provides free medical services to the general public, particularly those who are fully reliant on the public health system; and that enables greater access to quality healthcare and medical services in the country.

To strengthen the scheme, the Government also launched a dedicated website for the ‘Free Health Schemes’ in March 2023, including the ‘Online Patient Information System’ that streamlines necessary processes for the administration of the scheme.
