NETBALL Fiji is embracing a new chapter in the development of the sport, with the inaugural PacificAus Sports Netball Challenge set to provide a valuable platform for homegrown talent to compete, grow and pursue national representation.
Scheduled for November 23–28 2026 at Nissan Arena in Brisbane, Australia, the tournament will bring together locally based national teams from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands. Hosted by Netball Australia in partnership with the Australian Government through the PacificAus Sports program, The Challenge is the first national competition designed exclusively for Pacific-based netball players.
This presents an opportunity to recognise emerging talent in local communities and create clearer pathways for athletes aspiring to represent CREST Fiji Pearls.
Netball Fiji Transition Oversight Committee (TOC) Chairperson Vasiti Vugakoto said this was an important opportunity for us to invest in the talent we have at home.
Our local players deserve opportunities to test themselves at a higher level, gain international exposure and understand what it takes to progress into CREST Fiji Pearls.
The PacificAus Sports Netball Challenge provides another step along that journey by giving selected players the opportunity to measure themselves against regional opposition, experience the demands of international competition and demonstrate their readiness for higher levels of the game.
The tournament will also offer coaches an opportunity to assess players in a high-performance environment, identify emerging talent and better understand the areas requiring further development.
For Netball Fiji, building a stronger national program requires a broad and sustainable talent pool. Providing opportunities for locally based athletes is essential to ensuring that national selection pathways remain accessible to players developing their abilities at home.
Netball Fiji continues its work to strengthen the sport, opportunities such as the PacificAus Sports Netball Challenge reinforce the importance of investing in players at home.
