Close to 8,000 plants believed to be marijuana have been seized by police during a drug operation at the Bilobiloca farming area in the Northern Division.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe said the operation was launched following information received from members of the public.
He said police deployed a drone to verify the information, which confirmed the location of the suspected marijuana cultivation site before officers moved in.
ACP Vusonilawe acknowledged the continued support of communities, saying public cooperation had played a vital role in the success of drug raids, resulting in significant seizures and arrests.
“The sharing of information is indicative of community support towards law enforcement efforts, and the Fiji Police Force extends its appreciation for the consistent support towards crime prevention efforts,” he said.
He added that police drug operations go beyond targeting illicit drugs, with officers also focusing on other criminal offences to ensure a comprehensive approach to crime prevention and enforcement.
