Non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension remain the main health issues in the Raiwaqa medical area.
Health Ministry acting permanent secretary Dr Jemesa Tudravu told the Raiwaqa Medical Area Health Expo 2024 yesterday, the goal of the medical area was to build up a partnership with the community to combat health concerns and diseases affecting families and communities.
The Raiwaqa Health Centre caters to about 35,000 people in nearby communities, including Laucala Bay, Raiwaqa, and Raiwai medical zones.
“Our local business community and health stakeholders are very important in this partnership and have an important role to play,” Dr Tudravu said, adding it was the first time for the Raiwaqa medical area (and possibly for any other medical area in the Central Division or any other division in Fiji) to hold a health expo.
Dr Tudravu thanked the Raiwaqa health care team for the initiative. “Their support and participation will help in strengthening our partnership to tackle the health concerns in the local community and we can work together in partnership to address this.
“Medical screening offered during these two-day Health Expo will enable us to identify those who are at risk for NCD and begin appropriate interventions.”
