Dratabu in Nadi youngster Maleli Nauvasi aims to depart Queen Victoria School with a gold medal at this year’s Coca-Cola Games.

The Year 13 student claimed gold in the senior boys high jump, clearing the bar at 1.80m.

The winning jump also booked him a ticket to his third Fiji Finals next month.

“This will be my third year competing in the Coke Games. I’ve been winning gold medal in the zone but I’ve never won a medal at the Cokes,” he said after his jump.

“My aim this year is try to win one medal, particularly winning the gold medal for my school.”

He dedicated the win to his parents and to his brothers in Matavatucou.

“My family has been my motivation in athletics and in any sport that I take part in.

“They have sacrificed a lot for me especially when I’m at the dorm and I need something, they would go out of their way to fulfil my needs.  I like to dedicate this win to my brothers back at home.

“To my brothers back in school who are responsible for weeding the grass, ensuring that we have a clean learning environment and are always there to support me in athletics,” he added.
