The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has announced the temporary closure of Natovi Jetty for 24 hours after submerged obstructions were detected near the jetty’s ramp faces.
In Marine Notice 10/2026, MSAF said the closure will take effect from 8am on Sunday, June 7, until 8am on Monday, June 8, to allow authorities to address safety concerns posed by the navigational hazard.
MSAF is advising all mariners and ship operators to exercise caution and avoid using the facility during the closure period.
“The hazard involves submerged obstructions detected near the ramp faces,” the Authority stated.
As a precautionary measure, ships have been strongly discouraged from berthing at or departing from the jetty while the restrictions are in place.
“Ships are strongly discouraged from berthing and departing during this time,” the notice said.
The Authority said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safety of vessel operators, passengers and crew using the busy maritime gateway.
Natovi Jetty serves as a key transport link between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, facilitating the movement of passengers, vehicles and freight through ferry services operating between Natovi and Nabouwalu.
MSAF has urged all affected operators and travellers to make alternative arrangements and monitor official advisories for updates on the situation.
The Authority said further information will be provided as assessments and safety works progress.
