Nasinu is on a good start in the Digicel Fiji Boys Under-19 Youth League Southern Zone yesterday.
The Nilesh Khan-coached side defeated Northland Tailevu 2-1 at the Fiji Football Academy ground in Vatuwaqa.
They could have piled on more points if the players nailed their finishing touches, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
Captain Raul Lawrence Chandra said despite this, they will take the maximum points and build for the coming week.
“It was a good win, Nasinu is a hardworking team, and we are glad to start the first round on a high.
“The game plan was to score a lot of goals, but we just managed two and we are still grateful for that,” he said.
Chandra is one of the four players that is also part of the senior Nasinu team competing in the Digicel Fiji Premier League.
While their experience is invaluable, the son of former Fiji star Ronald Lawrence believes there are still some loopholes.
“We need a lot of work in the midfield and improve our communication with our players on the flanks,” the captain added.
The youth league continues next week.
Meanwhile, The Rewa U19 Youth side has taken the lead in the zone standings after a 3-1 win over Suva.
Mosese Namumu scored a brace, while Delon Shankar added another goal for the Baby Delta Tigers.
Shivam Shandil netted the lone goal for Suva from the penalty spot.
With this victory, Rewa sits at the top of the table with seven points, having secured two wins and a draw. Nasinu climbed up to the second spot with six points while Suva moves down to fourth place.
