THE Ram Sami Nasinu Women’s team kept its hope of securing a place in the top eight alive after a hard-fought 36-20 victory over Naitasiri in round seven of the Subrail Marama Cup championship at Ratu Cakobau Park yesterday.
Head Coach of the side Tomasi Katonivualiku praised his players for showing courage and determination, particularly after going into half-time behind.
He said the side came into the match knowing how important a win was to their campaign and remained focused on their target despite several players battling flu.
“I wish to thank the girls and thank God for giving them the courage and boldness,” Katonivualiku said.
“We came with a target to win this game and secure a place in the top eight.”
Nasinu made adjustments at halftime after falling behind in the opening half.
Katonivualiku said the message to his players was to improve in several areas they had identified during the break.
He was pleased with the way the team responded in the second half, particularly with their work at scrum time and overall leadership.
“I thank the girls for their passion to win the second half. They were very good in their scrum and leadership in general,” he said.
The victory gives Nasinu valuable momentum heading into round eight, where they are expected to face Rewa.
Katonivualiku said the team would not underestimate their next opponent, despite Rewa yet to record a win this season.
“We will take the next game with all of them,” he said.
He also acknowledged the support from the players’ parents and thanked Nasinu Rugby for providing the opportunity for the women to showcase their talent.
Katonivualiku believes the win is another step in the development of the players.
“This is just the beginning of a wonderful journey in their rugby life,” he said.
