The Fiji Secondary Schoolgirl’s Rugby League Under-19 champions Namosi Secondary School have a challenging competition ahead as 15 new schools join the running for the Pherrus Trophy title.
Team captain Uliana Naikata acknowledged the tough competition, especially with renowned schools such as Adi Cakobau School and Jasper Willams High School as contenders.
With unwavering dedication, Naikata emphasised the team’s training regimen since the start of the year.
“We have been training since the beginning of the year, working on our weaknesses since the long holidays,” said Naikata.
“We are also working closely with our coach, focusing on fieldwork, fitness, and defence strategies, hoping to give a show down to other schools.”
The team, composed mostly of returning members from last year, boasts strong camaraderie as their familiarity with each other’s playing styles enables them to work seamlessly as a unit. She expressed gratitude for the support from the families and coach.
Naikata and her team are motivated to make their supporters proud through their performance on the field.
The Fiji Secondary Schoolgirl’s Rugby League competition starts next week. Meanwhile, the FSSRL boys competition that was postponed last week will be also played today.
