Naitasiri Secondary School returns the glory to God as they were crowned the Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League (FSSRL) and Pherrus Competition champions in Nadi last week.

The schoolboys and girl’s warrior teams created history by being the first school to win both titles in the FSSRL national finals.

Naitasiri Secondary School head of school, Joseva Chale said they acknowledge God’s sovereignty and blessings upon them in their historical win.

“It was our time to shine and receive with faith his blessings upon the girls, the boys and the school,” Mr Chale said.

“We are so overjoyed, thrilled and delighted about the win.

“Its a first of its kind for the school – history in the making and a new record has been set by the school for others to follow. It has been our goal every year to win a prestigious event.

“We believe that nothing is impossible as long as we do our part with God leading us. We can conquer any mountain regardless of how small we are.

“Our school vision is to elevate the school to another level every year and our mission to achieve that is for all the work done should be top quality and excellent.”

He said in 2022 the boys team reached the semi-finals and last year they reached the finals.

“This year we have won the trophy – mission accomplished. Deep inside our hearts we believe that whatever we aspire to in life – we can reach it,” he said.

He said the school has limited resources available to them compared to other schools.

“We try to improvise with whatever we have available to us,” he said.

“We do a lot of hill-running, tyre lifting, and we use the small gym that we have been assisted with thanks to Government.”

He said the hunger to win was the driving force of their two teams.

“They will fight until the very last minute as their team spirit is high during any game. They are there to play and to win.

“They have high self-belief. Deep inside their hearts they believe there is no difference between them and other schools like RKS, QVS, ACS or other schools competing.

“We learn a lot from others, and we set a goal for all to work on, so our participation counts at the end of the day.”

The school will be having a thanksgiving service for its teams this week at the school.
