THE public is invited to be part of the World Music Day and also support local musicians at the Fiji Museum tomorrow.

The occasion is being organised by the Alliance Francaise de Suva and is celebrated every year in France on June 21 since 1982.

Alliance Francaise de Suva director,Thomas Feldstein said this event was initiated by the government, to have music coming out of conservatories, halls and operas and going in the streets and make it accessible to all.

“In France, it is a massive event, with thousands of people attending concerts everywhere,” Mr Feldstein said.

He said the public can expect a series of free concerts, from 3pm to 11pm, starting with amateurs and finishing with professional bands.

“All kinds of music will be presented with well-known bands and others to discover. Food and drinks will be available too,” he said.

In Fiji Mr Feldstein said the World Music Day was celebrated since 2006.

“Every year, Alliance Française organises a free music festival, open to all.  It is always an opportunity for some musicians to do their first step on a stage and we are proud to promote Fijian artists,” he said.

“We try to dedicate more timeslots to amateurs and non-professional musicians, with the idea of offering an open stage. But we want to also introduce a band from New-Caledonia, KNZO, who will perform for the first time here in Fiji,” he added.

The event is open to all and the Alliance Française is inviting all to come with your friends and family for a time of fun and music at the terrace of the Fiji Museum.
