The case involving the murder of a 28-year-old taxidriver at Waisali Hill in Cakaudrove last week has been transferred to the High Court.

The accused, Kositino Latianara, 32, appeared before Savusavu Magistrate Amelia Vavadakua yesterday and was further remanded in custody.

The case has been adjourned to April 10.

The taxidriver was identified last week as Amitendra Kumar of Vunivau, Labasa.

Kumar had lived in Savusavu for at least 10 years and just got married last year.

Meanwhile, Kumar’s death had prompted Fiji Taxi Association general secretary, Ashwin Lal to call on police to increase patrol on the roads.

“Our taxidrivers are no longer safe across the country,” he said.

For their safety, Mr Lal is calling on their members to install cameras in their vehicles.
