A 24- year-old man accused of the murder of Vilimaina Wotta, 26, has been given 21 days to file a notice of alibi.

Savenaca Niu, of Korovuto, Nadi, appeared before Nadi Magistrate Pulekeria Low yesterday.

Magistrate Low told Mr Niu to provide the names of people he was with at the time of the alleged offence if he intended to rely on an alibi in his defence.

Mr Niu is also accused of stealing a Samsung mobile phone belonging to Kalaveti Vueti.

Ms Wotta’s body was found near Nadi Plaza on the morning of October 15.

Police prosecutor Jovesa Saumaki objected to bail, saying Mr Niu had pending cases before the court and could reoffend if released.

State counsel John Vaurasi told the court the first phase of disclosures had been served in relation to the robbery charge.

The accused informed the court he would require assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.

Magistrate Low remanded him in custody and transferred the case to the High Court in Lautoka.

The matter has been adjourned to November 5.
