THE Mum You First campaign has been launched and it targets encouraging mothers nationwide to be exemplary leaders to their young by promoting toothbrushing in the earliest stages of life.
The campaign — a partnership between the Ministry of Health and Colgate Palmolive (Fiji) Ltd — is about telling mums they must brush their teeth first before they can tell or teach their children to brush theirs.
In her official address at the launch, First Lady Adi Koila Nailatikau said teaching children proper oral care as early as possible was a lifelong investment to their health.
She said the program was specifically designed for mothers and caregivers who could be an example by taking good care of their teeth.
“This will send a message to the family that oral health is very important and must be valued,” Adi Koila said on Tuesday at the Nausori Health Centre. “As parents, mothers and teachers, we should tell and encourage our children that visiting the dentist is a preventive measure and should be emphasised as a positive experience.”
