Romiza Bano has been forced to feed her four-month-old infant Rewa powdered milk in the past week because they can no longer afford baby formula when her husband lost his employment because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tavakubu, Lautoka resident said her husband lost his full-time employment when the pandemic’s second wave hit and this affected their livelihood drastically.

“Baby was on SMA formula since birth, but we can no longer afford it because my husband found a four-day job in a car wash and his earnings are dedicated entirely to our daily living,” Ms Bano said. “It has been really hard.

I cannot breastfeed him because of some medical conditions and the only option was to try giving him Rewa powdered milk.

“I feel sorry for him because he vomits at times so I have also started giving pawpaw juice and vegetable soup just to help with his growth.”

The mother-of-two said life had been unfair when her husband lost his employment and they have always tried to find out ways of sustaining their daily lives.

She said her husband worked for four days only in a week and would take the next week off because they were also operating in a bubble at work.

She has also pleaded with good Samaritans to at least help her provide for her two children aged one and four months during this crisis.
