ANOTHER Lautoka family are homeless following the destruction caused by a fire on Tuesday.

This is the second residential fire in the span of five days within Lautoka.

The house was located along Kara Punja Road.

Resident and neighbour Mereoni Saumaisue said the fire had spread to the neighbouring home partially grazing it.

“The fire started around 7.30 this morning (yesterday) there was black smoke coming from the side where the windows are,” she said.

“We saw the children running out, everything was destroyed, even the car.”

Ms Saumaisue said initial phone calls made to the National Fire Authority (NFA) were diverted to the voicemail.

“We managed to get through, and they arrived after 15 to 20 minutes but by that time the house was almost gone.”

The Divisional Police Commander West SSP Iakobo Vaisewa confirmed the report and stated that there were no casualties ,however the cause of the fire would be determined after investigations were completed.

Numerous phone calls made to the National Fire Authority Chief Executive officer Puamau Sowane remained unanswered
