Lami-born sailor Sophia Morgan has qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris, France next year.

The 20-year-old Team Fiji athlete recently competed at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands where she claimed two silver medals in the individual and team events.

Morgan, who is based in New Zealand, will feature in her second Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee Scholarship recipient qualified for the 2024 Games through merit at the Sail Sydney Olympic Qualifying regatta this week.

Morgan, who briefly played football in Fiji before moving to New Zealand, started her campaign in October 2022, where she competed in the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) 6 Women’s & Men’s World Championships in Texas, USA.

This event enabled the Auckland University Biomed student to improve her rankings and gain valuable experience.

She made it to the 2020 Olympics in Japan after being the best-placed sailor from Oceania at the Women’s Laser Radio World Championship.
