A total of 1,329 Fijian residents departed the country for employment purposes in April 2026, according to the latest figures released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.
The data shows employment-related departures accounted for 9.1 per cent of all resident departures recorded during the month, highlighting the continued outflow of workers seeking opportunities abroad.
Of those leaving for employment, 227 residents intended to stay away for less than three months, 440 planned absences between three months and one year, while 662 people were expected to remain overseas for between one and five years.
The figures were contained in the Bureau’s latest Resident Departures statistics, which recorded a total of 14,638 resident departures in April.
Holiday travel remained the leading reason for overseas trips, accounting for 7,185 departures or 49.1 per cent of the total.
Another 4,110 residents, or 28.1 per cent, travelled overseas to visit friends or relatives.
Business travel accounted for 913 departures, while 624 residents left for education or training purposes.
The report also recorded 157 residents departing permanently or for long-term migration under emigration.
Most residents leaving the country — 12,878 people or 88 per cent — intended to stay overseas for less than three months.
Only one per cent of all resident departures involved absences of more than five years or permanent migration.
The statistics form part of Fiji’s latest Visitor Arrivals and Resident Departures release compiled by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.
