MORE people are reporting fever and cough, according to the latest FluTracking Fiji Weekly Interim Report.
The report shows that 16.4 per cent of 177 participants reported having a fever and cough between August 31 and September 6.
This was higher than the 10.2 per cent recorded the previous week.
Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Penioni Ravunawa said the increase was monitored by the ministry.
“While this increase deserves our attention, there is no need for unnecessary alarm,” he said.
Mr Ravunawa said the results should be treated with caution because only a small number of people were taking part in the FluTracking survey.
He said the figures did not represent the health situation of the whole country.
The report also found that only one participant had taken a coronavirus or influenza test during the week.
He said the survey showed an increase in respiratory symptoms but could not confirm what virus was causing them.
People have been advised to cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, wash their hands regularly and stay home when sick.
Those with severe or ongoing symptoms are also advised to seek medical attention.
