A new code share partnership has been signed between Fiji Airways and Canadian airline WestJet.

According to the national airline, the new deal offers passengers access to networks between Canada and the South Pacific while also supporting Fiji Airways’ growing presence in North America.

The service will begin from June 18 operating three weekly flights all year round between Nadi and Vancouver on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Fiji Airways will then introduce the Airbus A350 from September 8 to meet increased capacity demands.

In a statement, Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive officer Paul Scurrah said the partnership marked an important step in strengthening Fiji’s global connectivity.

“Canada represents a growing and high-value market for Fiji and the wider Pacific,” he said.

“This partnership with WestJet makes it easier than ever for Canadian travellers to experience the warmth, culture and natural beauty of Fiji while also supporting increased visitor flows into our region.”

Canada’s high commissioner to Fiji Jennifer Lalonde said the new partnership between the two airlines was a welcome development in strengthening the longstanding ties between Canada and Fiji.

“Improved connectivity will make it easier for Canadians to experience the South Pacific; while supporting tourism, trade and people-to-people links that are so important to our relationship,” she said.

Meanwhile, WestJet Group executive vice president and chief commercial officer John Weatherill said this opportunity made it easier for their shared guests to reach destinations that mattered the most to them.

“Whether they want to immerse themselves in a new culture, connect with loved ones or explore a path less travelled, together we are creating smoother journeys and more travel memories,” said Mr Weatherill.
