ABOUT $31,000 was distributed to a faction of Monasavu landowners during the 20th cycle of distribution of a $52.8 million settlement ordered by the High Court in 2000.
This week, the funds was distributed to members of the Mataqali Rovadrau in Nadarivatu while next week members of the Mataqali Nadrogo and Mataqali Nakorolo will receive their 60 per cent cut.
The distribution of the funds was carried out by law firm Fa and Company.
According to the firm, the distribution of the lease money would be done over two to three weeks.
“A total of approximately $31,000 was prepared for disbursement (to Mataqali Rovadrau), including payments to the Public Trustee on behalf of beneficiaries under the age of 18 years,” a firm statement said.
“It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm of the members of Mataqali Rovadrau as they received their payments.
“Thank you to Team Fa & Co for your dedication and hard work in ensuring a smooth and successful first day.
“Over the next two to three weeks, distributions will continue and we will release a schedule collection timetable for each Mataqali, together with a schedule for village visits.”
A total of $52.8 million settlement was ordered by the High Court to be paid to landowners in 2000 by Energy Fiji Limited and Government. The settlement outlined that funds be paid in semi-annual installments and administered by Fa & Co over a 99 year period.
