FROM learning to play netball at the tender age of five years, Ana Cagi Moi, one of the 24 players who have been selected in the National U20 squad to prepare for the final trial on September 12 says she will only stop once she reaches her goal of making the Fiji Pearls.
The NZ-based player originally from Vusaratu Village in Natewa and is attends Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland where she is a Year 13 student.
She was one player who couldn’t make the trials over the weekend but Netball Fiji president Wainikiti Bogidrau said selectors had already seen her play.
Though not in last weekend, Moi understands the work she needs to put in to be able to make the cut for the final 15.
Speaking from New Zealand, Moi said she had just returned from the U19 NZ age-group tournament in Nelson and has been a representative of Netball Waitakere which was placed fourth in the competition.
“I’ve been playing netball since I was 5 years old and will continue playing until I reach my ultimate goal of making the Fiji Pearls.
“I was so excited when I was notified that I made the 24-member squad. I was so shocked and happy at the same time. I know that this is just a squad and they haven’t picked the main team yet.”
To the Natewa, Cakaudrove lass, being in the 24-member squad meant a continued program on strength and conditioning for her.
She knows nothing is impossible but she believes that the support she receives from her parents is what carries her through and she is forever grateful to her parents as she prepares for another final trial with the junior Pearls next month.
