THE Fijian Media Association (FMA) visited its third school, Tailevu North College, as part of its ongoing media literacy initiative.
During the visit to Korovou, held alongside the FMA Town Hall, editors including The Fiji Times editor Fred Wesley shared their experiences and insights into the journalism profession with students.
Speaking to the students, FMA president Rosi Doviverata said working in the media doesn’t only mean becoming a news reporter.
“The media industry offers a wide range of opportunities. Whether you’re interested in storytelling, camera operations, graphic design, video editing, or technical production, there is a place for everyone,” Doviverata said.
“You don’t have to follow just one career path. The industry allows you to develop your skills, explore different roles, and continue growing professionally.”
Journalists also shared their personal journeys with the students, speaking candidly about the challenges, setbacks and sacrifices they faced on their path to building successful careers in the media industry.
Doviverata encouraged students to learn as much as they can and aspire for great things.
In an earlier interview, she hoped more of these school visits could be done to educate the new generation of young people on the importance of media for a democratic nation.
