FIJI swimmer Anahira McCutcheon delivered one of team Fiji’s standout performances at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, breaking the Fiji open women’s 50-metre butterfly record twice in the space of a day.
McCutcheon first set a new national mark of 27.09 seconds in the heats to qualify for the semi-finals.
She then went a few milliseconds quicker in the semi-finals clocking a time of 27.01 seconds to lower her record and complete a memorable day in the pool.
The double record-breaking effort was a major milestone for the young swimmer and one of Fiji’s highlights at the games.
In the men’s event, Samuel Yalimaiwai and Don younger competed in the 100m breaststroke, recording times of 1 minute 5.60 seconds and 1: 08.18 respectively.
Fiji’s men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team of Reuben Taylor, Don Younger, Hansel McCaig and Tolu Baledrokadroka also impressed, finishing in 3:33.08.
Taylor produced an outstanding opening leg, posting a personal best of 53.38 seconds to give Fiji a strong start.
The performances continue team Fiji’s impressive campaign in the pool, with national records and personal bests highlighting the progress of the country’s swimmers.
