Swimmers will have an opportunity to earn selection for an international assignment when the Fiji-India Friendship Team Swimming Trials are held at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva on November 7.

The trials, scheduled to begin at 8am, will identify swimmers for the World Girmitiya Games, which will be held in Kolkata, India, from January 3-5, 2027.

The initiative is being organised under the Fiji-India Friendship Team, with the High Commission of India in Suva facilitating Fiji’s participation in the international event.

The selected Indian diaspora representatives will have the opportunity to compete on an international stage while strengthening the sporting and cultural relationship between Fiji and India.

A major incentive for interested swimmers is that participation at the World Girmitiya Games will be fully funded by the Government of India, providing an opportunity for selected athletes to represent Fiji without the financial burden of international travel and participation.

The World Girmitiya Games will bring together participants to celebrate the shared heritage and connections of the Girmitiya community through sport and cultural exchange.

Swimmers interested in being part of the Fiji-India Friendship Team are encouraged to attend the selection trials.

For further information, interested participants can contact Mr Shivam Ghai on 8338437 or email hco.suva@mea.gov.in.
