Lautoka Rugby makes a triumphant return to the Farebrother Challenge after a three-year absence.
They are set to challenge holders Nadi tomorrow at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
The last time Lautoka contested for the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy was in 2020 against Namosi during their stint in the Skipper Cup competition before being relegated the following season.
Expectations are high as Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players flyhalf Sikeli Rabitu, locks Taniela Ramasibana, and Freddy Ralulu are set to bolster the Maroon’s lineup.
Coach Peniona Ranitu expressed satisfaction with Lautoka rugby’s achievements this year, particularly their goal of finishing in the top eight of the Skipper Cup.
Securing fifth position is a significant accomplishment for the team, credited to the hard work and dedication of the players throughout the season.
“Finishing in the fifth position is a bonus and all credit to the players for their hard work and effort they have contributed this season,” Ranitu said.
“All players are excited and are all in a happy mood knowing we are challenging after three years and even our fans are excited and looking forward for Saturday.”
Lautoka concluded the Skipper Cup regular seson in fifth place with 23 points, while Nadi finished fourth with 29 points.
“Onus is on these young players, they have worked hard this season and have earned themselves a spot in the team,” Ranitu added.
