Marist Brothers High School went into this year’s Coca-Cola Games with an aim of winning 15 gold medals.

They won 17 yesterday and retained the boys title.

This is an improvement of five gold medals from last year where they bagged 12 gold medals.

Team coach Antonio Raboiliku said it was never easy but his athletes proved otherwise.

“We always thought it was going to be close but thanks to our athletes they did win it convincingly,” he said.

“The competition is getting tough year by year so we are just glad we managed to defend our title this year.”

Marist won 17 gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals in the boys division.

In second place was Suva Grammar School with six gold, nine silver and six bronze medals while Queen Victoria School finished third with five gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Raboiliku added this was his last year coaching MBHS.

“It’s not a good thing to coach a winning team. I need new challenges and I will see what is there for me next year,” said Raboiliku.

He said he would take time to enjoy the victory and would make decisions about the future in the coming days.
