A man alleged to have caused the death of a 28-year-old flight attendant in a motor vehicle accident in Martintar has been charged with manslaughter.
Police confirmed the accused was formally charged following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The charge relates to an accident that occurred on the morning of March 28, 2026, in Martintar, Nadi, which resulted in the death of Lucinta Evans.
Authorities said the accused was allegedly driving the vehicle involved in the fatal crash.
He is expected to be produced in a special court sitting at the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
Ms Evans’ death sparked an outpouring of grief online, with her family later launching a public awareness campaign aimed at highlighting Fiji’s growing road death toll.
The family created the “In Memory of Lucinta – Justice & Road Safety” Facebook page, where supporters continue to share tributes, memories and calls for safer roads.
In an earlier statement to this newspaper, the family said the campaign was also about ensuring people understood who Ms Evans was beyond the tragedy.
“Before the conversations around accountability and awareness, it is important to us that people understand the kind of person she was — deeply loved, full of life, caring and someone who meant so much to her family, friends and community,” the statement said.
The case is expected to proceed before the Nadi Magistrates Court.
