The High Court in Suva has sentenced a 58-year-old married man to 17 years and nine months of imprisonment for raping his three nieces repeatedly in different occasions.
In delivering the sentence today, Justice Daniel Goundar noted that the man was convicted after pleading guilty to 13 counts of rape, which were committed repeatedly between 2024 and 2025.
The victims aged 13, 11, and 7 years old are biological sisters.
The victims were being cared for by their grandmother while their parents worked in Nadi.
“The sentence I have imposed reflects the seriousness of what you have done, Justice Goundar ruled. “You violated three young girls who trusted you as their “bigger father”, over a prolonged period, and caused them physical and emotional harm that will likely endure.”
The man will be eligible for parole after serving 13 years and eight moths of his head sentence.
