MALOLO, the defending champions of the Skipper Cup, are embracing the challenge of another demanding campaign this season as they bank on the right blend of experience and fresh talent to mount a successful title defence.

The captain Imanueli Bari says the squad is approaching the new campaign with the same mindset that delivered success.

“It has been a tough year, but preparation has been going well,” he said.

“There are new faces in the team and a few players from last year’s squad. They’re blending in well and I think it will be a good year for us.”

The captain said retaining the title would require the same commitment and determination that carried the team to success last season.

While Malolo lifted the trophy to thunderous acclaim last year, they carry the underdog tag into the new season.

“Small boys, big job,” the captain said.

“We’re starting again from the bottom. It’s all about hard work and aiming high.”

“Our coaches have been working hard, helping us fix some of the mistakes we made last year and improve for this season,” he said.

The captain is expecting a difficult opening match against the Vanua Levu Select XV, when the competition kicks off in round one.

“I’ve seen them play, and I know it will be a hard game for us. We won’t be taking them lightly.”

He also thanked supporters, family and friends for standing behind the team and urged them to continue their support throughout the season.

“This is an important year for us because we’re defending our title. We hope our supporters will continue to stand with us.”
