The upcoming Telecom Charity Golf Tournament is more than a sporting event – it is a symbol of unity and compassion.

Hosted in partnership with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), the tournament brings together businesses, golfers, and families to stand shoulder–to–shoulder with cancer patients and survivors.

For the Fiji Cancer Society, every swing on the course represents hope and healing.

The funds raised go directly toward patient support services: from transportation to treatment, counseling, awareness programs, and outreach in rural areas. “These funds help us ensure that no patient feels alone in their journey, and that families receive the care and guidance they need,” said Belinda Chan, CEO.

Cancer touches every family, and tackling it requires collective effort.

Events like this strengthen advocacy and create a ripple effect of awareness. “When companies, sports enthusiasts, and everyday supporters come together, it shows that fighting cancer is not just a medical issue, it’s a community responsibility.”

Telecom Fiji has been a steadfast partner in this mission. Their long–standing support has amplified FCS’s message and sustained vital programs. “Their commitment ensures that awareness campaigns reach more people, and that patient care initiatives continue to grow. We are deeply grateful for their leadership in showing how corporate partnerships can drive social change,” Chan added.

Beyond fundraising, the tournament is also a platform for prevention. Every event is an opportunity to talk about healthy lifestyles, regular screenings, and the importance of early detection. “Early detection saves lives, and awareness is just as important as treatment,” FCS emphasized. Simple steps, like quitting smoking, eating more fresh local produce, staying active, and getting regular check–ups, can make a powerful difference in reducing cancer risk.

Yet, this mission unfolds against the backdrop of Fiji’s current economic climate. Rising costs of living and financial pressures on families mean that access to healthcare and support services is more critical than ever. For the Fiji Cancer Society, these challenges underscore the importance of community–driven fundraising. “In times of economic strain, partnerships and public support become lifelines. They allow us to continue providing essential services to patients who might otherwise fall through the cracks,” Chan noted.

Looking ahead, the Society’s vision is to expand outreach into more rural and maritime communities, strengthen HPV and breast cancer screening programs, and provide holistic support for patients. “Events like this fuel that vision by giving us the resources and visibility to keep pushing forward.”

The Fiji Cancer Society’s message to the public is simple yet powerful: Vinaka Vakalevu. Participation in this charity golf is not just a play- it’s purpose! Every stroke, every partnership, every show of support strengthens our fight and uplifts families living with cancer.”
