The trial of former deputy prime minister Manoa Kamikamica is set to begin in about two months in the Suva Magistrate’s Court, following the High Court’s dismissal of his application to have his criminal charges permanently stayed.

Magistrate Charles Ratakele fixed the trial dates yesterday to run from July 20 to July 23, 2026.

Defence lawyer Wylie Clarke stated that he wanted to move to trial “as quickly as possible,” a sentiment shared by the prosecution.

Mr Kamikamica also entered a not-guilty plea to a charge of perjury and providing false information to a public servant.

The prosecution intends to call four witnesses while the defence will call one if there is a case to answer.
