THE Macuata Rugby Union women’s team will finally host its games in the Subrails Marama Cup Championship after six rounds of competition on Viti Levu.
The Vanua Levu side has spent the opening rounds playing away from home but will now have the opportunity to compete in front of its supporters.
Speaking to Times Sports last Saturday, Macuata head coach Motu Lalagavesi said the team was overjoyed and pleased with its progress and was looking forward to returning home after spending more than a month on Viti Levu.
“We are so happy that we are finally going back to Vanua Levu,” Lalagavesi said.
The side has faced several challenges during the competition, including spending more than a month in Suva away from home and having limited support during its campaign.
Despite the difficulties, the team has remained committed to the competition and continued to push through each round.
“We have been through so much challenges as a team, but I’m thankful to my players for holding on.”
Lalagavesi said the players had made sacrifices by staying away from their families for an extended period.
The side’s latest outing ended in a 22-19 win over Naitasiri, after leading 10-7 at halftime.
Lalagavesi added the result was a positive reflection of the players’ commitment despite the challenges they had faced.
The team will now prepare to return to Vanua Levu, where it will host its remaining home fixtures.
Playing at home is expected to provide the team with much-needed support and motivation as Macuata looks to finish its campaign strongly.
The side will also continue working on areas such as its scrums before its next match.
Macuata will host its home game on Taveuni and will take on Rewa for this week’s round seven clash of the Subrails Marama Cup Championship.
