Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforcement officers will be deployed on 24-hour shifts to collaborate with police in conducting spot-check and also promote road safety.

With unfavourable weather conditions prevailing in some parts of the country, the authority has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and to remain vigilant.

LTA acting chief executive officer Irimaia Rokosawa reminded all road users of hazards during adverse weather periods.

He said motorists must be mindful of potential disruptions to traffic flow, decreased visibility, slippery roads and heavy rain could increase the risk of accidents.

He said it was imperative for drivers to adjust their speed accordingly.

With Fiji now in its cyclone season from November to April, those will definitely bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds that will make it difficult and dangerous for motorists and road users alike.

He advised them to stay alert and heed weather advisories and road safety messages.

Mr Rokosawa has also requested drivers, pedestrians, and passengers to co-operate with LTA enforcement teams and police officers at various checkpoints around the country.
