Former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama has called on Fijians to love one another irrespective of their background and live the life like Jesus.
“Let us love one another, irrespective of our backgrounds. Let us love each other without exception,” he said.
“Let us love each other as powerfully as Jesus did.
“So please, as we enjoy this long holiday with our loved ones, let us strive to live as nobly as Jesus lived.”
Easter, Mr Bainimarama said commemorates Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for humanity on the cross and the miracle of his resurrection.
“It is the most powerful story of love in the Christian faith, and one that every Fijian can appreciate,” he said.
Jesus lived for all of us, he died for all of us, and he was risen from the dead to show us that love and hope are eternal, that renewal is always possible, and to offer us the promise of redemption and eternal life.
He has also asked that during this Easter weekend, we pray for the many families on the frontlines of the recent floods throughout the country.
“We wish them all a fast recovery,” he said.
“Let us also pray for those who are ill and unwell.
“And let us extend our prayers further, to our peacekeepers who serve abroad, far away from the love and comfort of their families.”
