“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” (Arnold Schwarzenegger).
I pay tribute to the management, editorial team and hard working staff of The Fiji Times for the struggles this newspaper has endured to provide the readers with accurate information and the best news locally and from abroad.
Keep the boat rowing forward, Fred and your team!
Now that Christmas is over, the public is looking forward to new year’s public holiday.
This will be an opportune time to reflect on the events of 2015 and bid for stronger and better resolutions come 2016.
Children must set realistic goals for the new school year.
I express my sympathy to those families who have lost a loved one this year but I congratulate those who have been blessed with a bundle of joy during this festive season and the course of 2015.
I also express my acknowledgment and gratitude to all those who made our Christmas memorable.
I thank the cashiers and salespersons who served us tirelessly with a big bula smile.
Many of them had to pull through and stay away from their families.
I also acknowledge the public service drivers for their service. Hearty thanks to the police officers for manning our streets. Sirs and madams, without your presence we would not have felt safe at night on the streets of Suva.
A big vinaka vakalevu to the market vendors for their fresh farm produce and for sacrificing their efforts in our market.
The bank tellers also deserve a pat for their excellent services despite the queues.
Those who were on the roadsides selling also made sacrifices to meet the needs and wants of their families. A big thank you to everyone for the safe festive season.
However, no pities for those drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
Finally, thumbs up to the letters to the editor family for all the wonderful letters. You are all champions in your own way. To the general public, let’s enjoy the remaining days of 2015 with hopes for a peaceful and prosperous Fiji as we bid farewell to our netball coach Kate Carpenter. To madam Rosy Akbar, thank you for being the first women’s minister to tour the highlands of Narokorokoyawa Village. You have won the hearts of thousands of Fijians with this gesture!
