FIJIANS serving in the British Army completed a gruelling 226-kilometre charity walk from Lautoka to Verata in Tailevu yesterday, carrying 25-kilogram packs to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse while supporting veterans in Fiji and the United Kingdom.
On the final leg from Nakasi to Verata, British High Commission staff, reps from the Royal British Legion and veterans joined the walk before the team received a traditional welcome at their destination.
Over the nine-day walk, the soldiers also visited schools to encourage young people to reject drugs and make positive life choices.
The campaign raised more than 2500 British pounds ( $F6500) through a GoFundMe fundraiser for the Royal British Legion, with proceeds to benefit its Fiji and UK branches.
