From wanting to quit training to being the lone gold winner for her school, Eunice Ravudolo has truly made her school proud.
The Year 9 student of Christian Mission Fellowship (CMF) Secondary School in Nasinu is the only gold winner for her school – securing her medal in the junior girls 4kg shotput throw with a distance of 9.84m.
Ravudolo who hails from Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu with maternal links to Mavana Village in Vanuabalavu, Lau, was overwhelmed with the training sessions and wanted to quit, but through the words of encouragement from her coaches and teammates she continued to work hard.
Looking back, she was happy that she continued with her training.
“Coming here I wasn’t aiming for a gold but was hoping for a silver and bronze, but my coach and team pushed me with words of encouraged,” she said.
“Those words helped me win gold.
“I didn’t get through with my discus throw but I didn’t let that get to me. I simply just tried to get a medal in shotput but didn’t know it was going to be gold.”
She said the competition at the Coke Games has been tough especially with a lot of good competitors in the field events.
“My dad and mum have been a source of strength during those tough training sessions and also during this athletics meet.
“My dad, who is overseas calls and motivates me to do better in my field events, even with training.”
Her school in the girls’ division won one gold and a silver while the boys won two silver medals.
In the junior 4kg shotput Litia Lomani of Adi Cakobau School came in second with a throw of 9.42m, winning a silver medal while Ro Miriama Muakalou of Adi Cakobau School winning bronze with a throw of 9.26m.
