THE Vodafone Fijiana XV captain Kolora Lomani says the side has returned to camp with renewed determination as they prepare for a tough Test against Japan on September 4 and the upcoming WXV Global Series Challenger in Hong Kong from September 13-26.
The Fijiana XV resumed training this week following a short break after their two-Test series against the South African women’s team.
Lomani said it had been a demanding week in camp, with the players focusing on areas where they fell short during the South Africa matches.
“It’s been going well after the two games against the South African women’s team,” Lomani said.
Lomani said one of the key messages to the players was the importance of understanding their individual responsibilities and delivering their roles for the team.
The squad has reviewed footage from the South Africa Tests, with players encouraged to study their performances individually and work collectively as units.
“We had to go back and look at our clips and do our homework as individuals and as a unit,” she said.
“We’ve been doing that during the week and hopefully we can make those changes leading into next week’s game and the WXV.”
Lomani believes the Fijiana XV have plenty of potential, highlighting the work being done by the forwards in the set pieces as one of the team’s major strengths.
“The forwards have been working hard with their set pieces, especially the lineouts and scrums,” she said.
“Our strength is through the forwards, and obviously we’ve got our backline as well.
“We just have to get the forwards doing their job and running up the middle, then spread the ball out wide where we can.”
Lomani expects a fierce contest against Japan, a team Fiji has only faced once before.
“They’re a really strong team and they play their rugby with heart,” she said.
“We’re looking forward to a good game against Japan.”
Lomani also thanked the Fijiana XV supporters for their continued encouragement as the team prepares to represent Fiji overseas.
