The village of Lokia welcomed delegates from across Rewa on Wednesday as it took on the responsibility of hosting the Rewa Provincial Council meeting for the first time.
Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa commending the community for its efforts and preparations.
Speaking after the meeting, Ro Teimumu said Lokia was one of the six villages that came under Burenivalu in the province of Rewa.
“The women have outdone themselves with the preparations for today’s meeting,” she said.
Village headman Asesela Sadole described the occasion as a proud milestone for the community.
He said hosting the annual gathering was both an honour and a major responsibility for the village.
Mr Sadole said preparations had not been easy, but the challenge brought the community together.
“When we first heard that Lokia would host the meeting, we wondered how we would manage such a big responsibility,” he said.
“But the experience united our people and gave us the chance to show what our village can achieve when everyone works together.”
He said villagers living both at home and overseas supported the preparations by contributing resources and financial assistance.
“In a short period of time, our people donated two cows and four pigs. Others also contributed in whatever way they could.”
Mr Sadole said hosting the provincial meeting also allowed Lokia to be part of discussions on issues affecting the districts of Rewa and to raise concerns affecting the village.
