FORMER Flying Fijians captain Koli Rakoroi believes the side can bounce back against England this weekend, saying “anything can happen” after their opening 24-39 loss to Wales.

The Flying Fijians were outplayed in key moments during their first Test, and Rakoroi said the team needed to address several weaknesses before facing England in their second match.

Rakoroi pointed out that Fiji lacked aggression against Wales and appeared to be playing a more casual style of rugby.

“The players were just playing a casual game.

“They were not aggressive enough, maybe they underestimated Wales.

“We hope they will improve on those weaknesses in their game against England this week and will lift their game.”

Rakoroi also highlighted the lack of a warm-up match as another factor that affected Fiji’s preparation.

While Wales had a build-up match against the Barbarians before facing Fiji, the Flying Fijians entered the Test without any warm-up game.

“Fiji did not have a warm-up game compared to Wales. They had their warm-up game against the Barbarians.

“If they had a warm-up match, it would have made a difference.”

Rakoroi said the team must learn from the Wales defeat and focus on improving their performance against England.

“They have to improve on their weaknesses, and I know anything can happen this week.

“I hope they train hard and lift their game,” he added.

The Senirusi Seruvakula-coached Flying Fijians will face England in their second match on Sunday at 1.10am.
