A teacher at a secondary school in the Northern Division is under the spotlight for allegedly throwing an absenteeism letter in a student’s face.

Ministry of Education permanent secretary Selina Kuruleca said the divisional education officer has had discussions with the boy’s parents.

“He has confirmed receiving the parents and discussions have been completed,” said Ms Kuruleca, adding the ministry treated every case seriously.

“There’s impartiality within the process of the ministry.”

The boy’s father, Mohammed Khahil, said the teacher’s alleged behaviour had embarrassed his child in front of his class.

“The letter was prepared by my wife to state the reason why our child was sick,” he said.

Mr Khahil said his Year 10 son visited the Nasea Health Centre but forgot to acquire a sick sheet.

“We went to the vice-principal of the school, but he did nothing,” he said.
