The up and down legal battle for former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama and suspended police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho will continue in the High Court next Wednesday on a prosecution appeal against their Magistrates Court sentences yesterday with both men avoiding a conviction.

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku filed the appeals a few hours after the Suva Magistrate Seini Puamau gave Mr Bainimarama an absolute discharge and sentenced Mr Qiliho to payment of a $1500 fine without conviction.

Mr Rabuku called the sentences “unsatisfactory” and “wrong in facts and law”.

The High Court has issued a notice of hearing requiring the parties to appear on the appeal on Wednesday.
