The Suva Magistrate’s Court has ordered the lawyer for Jiuta Naivalurua Raibevu — who has been charged over the alleged disappearance of $31 million worth of cocaine exhibits — to file a notice of appointment before his application for bail can proceed.
Mr Raibevu appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza yesterday where his lawyer, Ulamila Vakalalabure, was directed to file the notice at the earliest opportunity.
Mr Raibevu bail application is scheduled to be heard on November 6.
He faces one count of interfering with evidence and one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
It is alleged that he and another person unlawfully interfered with, seized and possessed 39.5 kilograms of cocaine from the High Court registry between March 23, 2021, and September 15, 2026.
The missing cocaine is believed to have been exhibit material in the case involving Fiji-Canadian national Joshua Aziz Rahman.
