EXPERIENCE will be important for Suva when the side takes on Lautoka in the Subrails Marama Championship at Bidesi Park at 1pm today.
The capital side has won its past three matches and will enter today’s clash with confidence after coming from behind to beat Kadavu 19-10 last Saturday.
Kadavu led 10-7 at halftime, but Suva produced a stronger second-half performance to secure the victory and continue its push in the competition.
Captain Bulou Wainikiti Vasuturaga said the team was aware of the challenge ahead and needed to continue working on areas that required improvement.
“Every women’s team is powerful,” she said. “We just need to identify our weaknesses clearly, fix them during training, and make sure we’re better in our next game.”
The match will also provide another opportunity for Suva’s younger players to gain valuable experience alongside senior players such as Vasuturaga and Luisa Tisolo.
Head coach Meli Tuifagalele said the experience within the squad had been important in helping develop the younger members of the team.
“They came back to us at the right time. We have a very young squad,” he said.
Suva’s only defeat came against Nadi in round three, a result Tuifagalele said had highlighted the need for his players to remain disciplined and follow the structure developed during training.
The loss has since been followed by three straight victories, including wins over Kadavu and other opponents as Suva regained its momentum.
Lautoka will now provide another test for the side, with Tuifagalele expecting the Western team to adopt an expansive approach.
Suva will need to maintain its structure and make the most of its experience if it is to extend its winning run when the two sides meet today.
